Jun 3, 2016 at 22:35 | comment | added | Daniel R Hicks | Be sure you appreciate how difficult and time-consuming it will be to deal with accommodations (whether you camp or hotel it) and meals. It is no doubt a bit easier now with iPhones, but it's easy, even in that relatively populous corridor, to find yourself 50 miles from the nearest reasonable overnight stop if you don't plan very carefully.
Jun 3, 2016 at 21:50 | comment | added | Criggie♦ | When you can ride 100 kilometres, on each of two sequential days, then you're ready for this trip. Plan on two days riding and then a rest day, it will take you 36 days to complete.
Jun 3, 2016 at 20:21 | comment | added | Daniel R Hicks | You can no doubt have a reasonable chance of doing it, if you are in decent physical condition, and really, really determined. But it's an incredibly ambitious undertaking, if you are talking about riding "unsupported" and carrying all your own gear. I'd recommend against it this year, doing some sort of shorter (eg, 1 week) "supported" tour to get used to the idea, then maybe tackle it next year. (Consider, among other things, that you will get incredibly sunburned unless you take extraordinary precautions.)
Jun 3, 2016 at 16:47 | comment | added | gaurwraith | I would recommend that you search up bike touring webpages that can provide extensive information on how to prepare the trip, or get a book on the subject... there are many details that you want to known beforehand instead of wishing you had known when you are out there. Also plan bailout methods
Jun 3, 2016 at 16:04 | comment | added | Rider_X | No one seems to be addressing contact points. You will be spending a lot of time in the saddle, you need to ensure the fit and contact points (saddle, handle bars, pedals + shoes) work for you. Repetitive stress injuries can quickly sneak up on you when doing large mileage.
Jun 3, 2016 at 14:13 | comment | added | FreeMan | There are very few (if any) professional riders who will make a trek like this. Sure, the Tour de France is roughly this length, but that's a race. So I'd say absolutely, yes a ride like this is doable by an amateur! You'll need a lot of preperation, though!

Jun 3, 2016 at 13:22 | comment | added | Adrienne | It is an expedition, you're right. I would plan for a month. This is not in the works yet, but I would try to have one other with me. Carrying everything.
Jun 3, 2016 at 13:08 | comment | added | Criggie♦ | That's about 2,400 kilometres - you're talking about a significant expedition, which will take you from 2 weeks to a month, or more, depending on daily coverage, and rest days. Will this be a supported ride or are you carrying everything? Are you going with a group or alone?
