Nov 4, 2017 at 12:51 comment added Daniel R Hicks A more common problem, in my experience, is that the thickened area around the valve gets caught by the tire bead. (USUALLY this is reasonably obvious, as the tire will have a "hump" in it at the valve, but sometimes it's not so obvious.) The trick is, when installing the tire, to press the valve up into the rim a bit, so the thick area is inside the tire vs just against the rim.
