Budget hydro brakes exist (TekTro HD-M275 comes to mind). These are common on entry level MTBs, where they’re arguably more important than having a nicer drivetrain. | |

If they are thinking of 11s, then i would bet there aren’t any MTB groups with mechanical disc brakes. If I am right, the OP would also need new brakes to pull this off. I’m not so sure about the situation with 10s. | |
