In Switzerland, cyclists are likely expected to respect the STOP sign, because some can be found on the shared pedestrian/bicycle roads. Cars, motorbikes, and even mopeds are not permitted on these roads, so who is supposed to read the signs and also the road markings? Could not be just for pedestrians.
If valid in one place, the sign should be valid in another as well. Track stand.
Road.cc recently published an article about the large fines for Australian cyclists, one for riding through the red light and another for using mobile phone while riding. The police said that the rules they have violated apply for cyclists the same way as for motorists.
