Downhill mountain biking is type of biking sport which is held on steep and rough terrain. It involves jumps, rock gardens, and other obstacles. Practiced on steep, rough terrain that often features jumps, drops, rock gardens and other obstacles. Jumps can be up to and including 12 meters (39 feet), and drops can be greater than 3 meters (10 feet).

Downhill bikes are designed for steep, gnarly terrain, speed, big drops, and jumps. With these bikes, you're usually looking for some other way to the top of the trail whether that's hiking, shuttling or a chairlift. They simply aren't made to go any direction but down.
