While in college I worked ≈5 years in a bicycle sales/repair shop owned & run by a man who had such knowledge & experience he could repair anything. I was a bike-aholic who used my bicycles as my only transportation during spring, summer, fall & winter months. I'm also an engineering minded individual who refused to accept some things on bicycles could not be done. I have a custom, Reynolds 531 lugged frame tandem that weighs 36 lbs I designed and had built with enough distance between seats to accommodate people over 6' tall. I learned that best way to run a tandem is with front crank arms 10mm longer than rear crank arms & set up to run same-side drive. Bike goes faster and frame flexes far less. If you wish to learn things about tandem bikes and riding then please feel free to contact me.
