Happened once to a riding partner - I told him that his battery was nearly dead because I could barely see his light, turned out that the lens cover had fallen off, and the tiny unfocused surface mount LED's were very hard to see without the focusing lens. | |

When I mention Christmas lights in the context of bikes it's normally disparagingly -- as the only explanation for the flashing modes that just seem like reduced power from any distance away but look very decorative from close up | |
