Trailer hitch between a bike and trailer?
It makes sense to me to buy this part of the setup or scavenge/cannibalize discarded old trailers.

Touring load weight distribution
Have you considered a trailer? This also allows local unloaded trips from a base without all the gear loaded. Keeps weight down low too.
