@Karl I feel absolutely fine towards them. Everyone here has a fixed and flashing light at night and it helps them be seen. That is the only important thing here. Their flashing lights are still tiny compared to any oncoming car lights. Why would I feel any anger towards one of the most vulnerable groups of road users? It doesn't matter if I'm delayed a bit - that's far less important than a cyclist being safe.
I disagree @Karl, as do many road safety organisations. Flashing lights always attract attention better than fixed lights. Also, who gets aggressive over flashing lights? I've never encountered that or heard of it before - sounds very weird. The distance at night bit is true though, which is why at night you want fixed plus flashing lights.
I think jimchristie is right - my bike will not let me change further than that when I'm stationary, as the derailleur gets jammed against the next sprocket. Try it while riding.
